MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST: Milpark Lab

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

  • Performs, diagnostic testing procedures, reviews and verifies results and interacts with pathologists on technical matters to provide all relevant data that may pertain to the prevention, diagnosis or treatment of diseases
  • Operates, maintains and calibrates the equipment used in the laboratory to ensure that it is operating efficiently and providing accurate results
  • Implements sound housekeeping procedures and work effectively with others as a member of a team to ensure a safe working environment in accordance with safety protocols
  • Reports incidents, including instrument failures, problem solutions and reads documents and actions tasks on the laboratory information management system in compliance with relevant organisational policy
  • Perform relief Technologist duties, overtime and weekends
  • Information management system in compliance with relevant organisational policy.
  • Responsible for adhering to Lancet uniform protocols as set standard operating procedures

KEY COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be qualified in Clinpath as well as registration with HPCSA
  • Must have a functional knowledge of processing and reading all specimen types in a Lab
  • Must have at least 3-5 years’ experience in a busy laboratory
  • Must be prepared to work overtime if required
  • Must be able to work under pressure in a team and independently
  • Must be accurate, professional and reliable
  • Knowledge of good laboratory practice and QA/QC is essential
  • Good communication skills; interpersonal skills
  • Must be professional and have a sense of urgency towards work

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have Grade 12
  • National diploma in Biomedical Technology
